Past Projects
Past experience includes serving the hybrid & integration needs of the Air Force Research Laboratory, U.S. Army, Electricore, and Boeing.
NASA Phase III SBIR
This effort supports NASA/Armstrong Flight Research Center’s research goal of setting up a small scale electric distributed propulsion test capability. The project has evolved and became NASA Langley “LEAPTech” (Leading Edge Asynchronous Propellers Technology) Team Seedling demonstrator, where a full-scale HEDP wing was built and tested at NASA Armstrong in conjunction with Joby Aviation. ESAero was the prime contractor and provided instrumentation engineering design and assembly support to the AFRC electric propulsion team and provided, manufactured, integrated and ground tested various components of the test stand and associated ground test equipment.
Air Force Research and NASA Ames
N+2, N+3 Hybrid Electric Modeling and Tool Development
AFRL and NASA sponsored ESAero to continue development of their in-house design, analysis and performance tool for TeDP and HEDP air vehicles.
Validation of UAM Dynamics Modeling Tool Suite
Using Scaled Modular Aerial Research Testbed
In Phase I, a comprehensive tool suite for the quantitative assessment of UAM aircraft ride qualities with respect to passenger comfort.
UAM Disturbance Rejection in Conceptual Design
Complex and often violent urban wind environments pose a significant challenge to the safety and ride quality for vehicles intended for the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) market.
Integrated Autonomous Controller
WITH HEALTH STATE AWARENESS
ESAero will develop an Integrated Autonomous Controller (IAC) with Health State Awareness (HSA) which will be capable of detecting, characterizing, and adapting to pre-critical faulty behavior.
Sampling the Venusian Atmosphere
USING A SOLAR POWER PARAGLIDER
During this Phase I effort ESAero and PSI will explore the application of powered paragliders enabled by the integration of flexible solar cells into a flexible wing to perform science missions.
Demonstration of Autonomous Differential Throttle-Based Flight Control
FOR AIRCRAFT WITH DISTRIBUTED ELECTRIC PROPULSION
A series of RDT&E activities is proposed to create and demonstrate a reconfigurable, autonomous flight controller for the Aircraft for Distributed Electric Propulsion Throttle-based Flight Control.
